Landmark topping out of Cheltenham’s first rooftop restaurant

Family-run construction firm Beard has marked the topping out of the refurbished Quadrangle building in the historic centre of Cheltenham.

The ceremony was held, fittingly, in the shell that will become the building’s new rooftop restaurant, a first for the Gloucestershire town. The restaurant is the crowning achievement of an impressive multi-million-pound refurbishment project that is seeing the 1970s landmark transformed into four storeys of premium, modern commercial space.

The Quadrangle occupies a significant location in Cheltenham, close to the Grade-2 listed town hall, and overlooking the spa town’s famous Regency-era Promenade and Imperial Gardens.

The addition of the rooftop restaurant promises to make the Quadrangle a destination in its own right, as well as providing high-quality office and retail space.

Operations Director at Beard, Jamie Harwood, commented: “Buildings such as the Quadrangle are important to the towns and communities they serve. Beyond providing much-needed workspace and leisure facilities, it is an iconic building, and by virtue of its location has a wider significance to the town’s residents.

“It is a great honour for Beard to be part of this project and we have been committed – even with the difficulties imposed by Covid-19 – to keeping this important work on track, and to delivering on our promise of prompt and faultless delivery.”

Cllr Steve Jordan, leader of Cheltenham Borough Council who attended the topping out, says: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to see the Quadrangle refurbishment first-hand.

“The Quadrangle is in a key location and the refurbishment is an important investment in our town centre next to the Imperial Gardens and town hall. The new roof top restaurant certainly promises that extra wow-factor. I very much look forward to seeing its completion.”

Work is due to be completed on the Quadrangle at the end of February 2021. Expressions of interest for the retail and restaurant space should be directed to joint agents Hartnell Taylor Cook and John Ryde Commercial. Currently just over 15,000 sq ft of office and ground floor space is under offer, and any further office enquiries should go to John Ryde Commercial.
